repair bandsaw cover

I got an old Magna bandsaw with that $50 greenie I bought recently. Sometime in the past, the seller tried to operate with electrical black tape wrapped around both wheels instead of rubber tires and the blade ran off and seriously scored the plastic (pvc?) cover. You can see where the tape was rubbing. The cuts are right through the plastic in a couple of places and came close to total cut through!

I tried searching the messages for a repair technique someone might have posted without any success. I think some kind of solvent based cement or maybe a 2 part epoxy would work.

Can anyone recommend a repair material?

I have no experience with this but if I was faced with the task I would try an epoxy applied as a filler in the gouges. It would probably look like an emergency repair job but that is what I would do.

Clean it up with paint thinner, then sand the lower saw cut smooth. Maybe tape over that outside cut through, so the glue doesn't seep thru. Then I'd go with what Dusty said.

When I bought my Magna BB the Plastics was broken apart and I used a two part epoxy to put it back together. I then used more epoxy to fill in the crevises and some of the missing shards of plastic. I worked well for quite sometime since then I have have painted it gray and bought the upgrade cover. I now looks like a SS bancsaw other that the lable.

You've got a lot of plastic still there on the inside of the cover. And I rather suspect the cover is standard abs plastic.
So, were I you, I'd try some model cement and a popsicle stick. Put some glue down, disolving the plastic, and use the popsicle stick to spread it down into the grove the blade cut.

Thanks for the various suggestions. Foxtrapper's thought that it was made of abs plastic struck a chord with me so I went to HD and bought a can of abs pipe cement. I tried a little and sure enough, it seemed to melt into the surface. I tried to clean the black residue off with paint thinner without much success, knocked the loose stuff off the edges of the sawcuts and painted on the abs cement with the dauber that comes in the can, after following beeg's suggestion of taping over the through cuts.

As you can see, it isn't a pretty repair but I think it will be fine once fully cured. I might give it a coat of spray paint later.
