I have the dust collector. It works great BUT the sound is extremely bothersome. I have taken it apart/cleaned and continue to have the same issue. Is this the nature of the beast or is it my machine?

Without being able to hear it this is hard to say but the dust collector is very noisy. I work in a garage shop. When I have a lot to do, I roll the dust collector outside and let the neighbors listen to it rather than me. The hose gets in the way sometimes but it is quieter in the shop.

dusty i have the ss dust collector. seems fine to me , when i go to shut it off . sounds like it gurgles before it stops. thanks jim

According to SS when the dust collector makes a "roaring " sound it may be due to the fact that the impeller is worn and needs to be replaced. Check the 17 most replaced things on the SS website.

Like Dusty has already said, without actually hearing it, we cannot tell if 'yours' is noisier than 'typical'. Keep in mind, Vacuum cleaners ARE noisey! The SS DC is IMHO quieter than most. The vanes are like a helicopter rotor(being smaller their sound pitch is higher - whine not tumpa thumpa!)

Heck, my DC3300 is quiter than my Shopvac!!

My DC3000 is very quiet, I often forget it is running and leave it running during setups and such.

Admittedly with it running and my SS I can't hear the radio but when I turn the SS off the noise level comes down to something I seem to tolerate thus I forget to turn the DC off.

Now if I pick up a rag or something that will catch on the impeller the noise level instantly changes and I have to shut the thing down and hope the offending trash falls off the impeller. Which it never does and I'm faced with a tear down and cleaning.

Last time, two days ago it was a Home Depot cash register receipt that got sucked in and would not fall off the impeller. Pulled the dust bag and shroud and reached in and retrieved the slip. Put it all back together, turned it on and sucked up the slip again from where I threw it on the floor.

Oh goody I get to take it apart again! This time I threw the slip in the trash instead of the floor.
