I'm doing repairs to the SS I've had about 10 years and have hardly ever used. I'm finding some great differences in models and replacement parts. There is NO serial number on the head stock. It has a 3/4 HP motor, a gilmer belt drive and is a "pussy cat gray" in color with a semismooth finish. Some of what I have gleaned from this forum is that after 1962 the motor was a 1 1/8 HP. Unless someone has painted it it's not a goldie.

I would take pictures but it is buried under other projects in the garage and is in the drill press position. I'm also hoping to take a trip to Hawaii tomorrow or later in the week and thought I'd get this thread started.

A disturbing statement which makes me immediately think "Clone". I hope I am wrong. Until you are able to provide more detailed info about all I can say assuming it is not a clone is a pre 1960 model 500.

Or early Goldie. Pix of 'other' features would help determine when. Gilmer narrows it to the Greenie/early goldie vintage.

No later than spring 1963(that was when I purchased my poly-v,1 1/8hp Goldie new).

I believe the poly-v and 1 1/8hp motor model change occurred in 1962.

Not sure, but it may also have coincided with Magna American startup.

Speaking of the Shopsmith evolution, do we know that when a new model was introduced that production of previous models discontinued OR was there some overlap.

Could I buy a NEW 510 today?

I found a serial number. It's 351979 and located on the headstock cover which I could not see since it is in the drill press position and the cover was help up by a clamp while I worked on replacing the drive belt. Built Nov/Dec 1957. I apologize --It's apparently a greenie after all.
