removing belt SS 10ER

I'm trying to put the speed changing attachment on my shopsmith 10er but i can't seem to figure out how the motor pulley comes off of the motor? it's pretty old and hasn't been used in the past few years so it might just be stuck. any info would be appreciated. thanks.

You need to raise the motor to reduce tension in the belt. This is done by loosening the allen screws that secure the motor bracket rods in the headstock and then raising the motor and motor bracket. You might need to use a little penetrating oil on the rods to get them to slide.

thanks for the advice. i actually got it done without having to move motor. (hopefully that's okay??) i just put some wd40 on the shaft and it eventually slid off. now that i've cleaned off the gunk that had been on there i won't encounter this again. thanks again for your advice.

FWIW You will likely need to adjust the motor position, so now is a good time to loosen/clean up the motor mounting plate posts.
P.S. Yer gonna remove/replace one of those set screws anyway!

You were right, although I didn't have to move the motor at all to get the belts on or off, just while setting up the belt tension. Anyway, it's all set up and working now. Thanks for all your help guys.

Just for reference, what size are the belts?

You might want to be careful but on the ER pulleys they are made of soft Al and you can bend the pulleys by taking off the belts without loosening the motor. That is why the ER pulleys are going for so high on Ebay. The original are getting scarce.
