The Shopsmith video on how to lubricate headstock parts was amazing. Let's see, I cut away one side of the headstock so that all the lube points are accessible. Does that sound right?

Sounds right! Reality be differnt!;)

Many Shopsmithers around here speak highly of a product called Zoom Spout, available at Ace Hardware with a long narrow tube that will help get into those tight spaces. I'm still using 3-in-1.

I have the zoom spout oiler (found it at my local ACE hardware affiliate) and it works great. for the two main oil points (the two sheeves) it is a breeze.

That's one way to doit. But REMEMBER to replace those pieces before ya use the SS.

Come to think of it, rjbuzzard has a good point. Why didn't SS just make a big door on one side of the headstock for maintenance! It's not like there isn't room! Of course, I'm being mostly facetious here, but it makes sense up to the point where structural integrity is compromised.

Hey! They have improved the 'ability' to perform necessary lubrication 3 times!

1) Added a hole under the medallion.

2) Made that hole larger.

3) Eliminated any need to lubricate the drive train (except the sliding quill).

Only took a half century!:D
