Shopsmith Forums

For those of you (and myself) who have drooled over the miter gauge that Norm Abrams used in the latter episodes of The New Yankee Workshop but were unable to use the Osborne mite gauge he had because it didn't fit their Shopsmith, there is news. I just received and email from them that they now make a Shopsmith compatible version. And they have an introductory price with free shipping.

I am in no way connected with the company, I just thought that the group should know about another neat addition to their Shopsmith.

I will have to give this some thought; not because it doesn't look like a good deal but because I am not sure I can justify three miter gauges for only two table saws.

It sorta doubles as a fence extension too. That's part of my feeble argument for buying it. It can not be more accurate than my Incra V120. Oh, it might be more capable of improved accuracy over the V120 but I don't need better than that.

Now that is tempting. I saw a similar design on the Dewalt 746 saw when the saw was first introduced (10 years or more ago) and fell in love with it. I have wanted one ever since. Then a few years ago Norm started using one and I wanted it even more.

From playing with the Dewalt model two things popped out. First it is rock solid, once the angle is set and locked it there is no slop or play.

Second it is easy to set accurately. It's design is simple and easy to use. To me it makes perfect sense.

Noticed the eb-3 (non-shopsmith) was $104.95. Hmmmmmm!

Maybe the same nut that prices SS stuff is now working for them priceing the SS enabled products.

Or perhaps they figure SS owners are easy touches since the pay Shopsmith's outrageous prices and will pay the extra.

Or perhaps that is what they figure it is worth to grind down an existing bar by 1/16 to make it fit.

That's their Holiday give away price. Normally $159.XX

The SS model is about $15 more than the other when comparing regular prices.

P.S. I prefer the Miterset! A lot less expensive and just as - or more accurate. www.miterset.com

Yer point is well taken! That cooled my 'ardor'!:rolleyes:

It isn't on my immediate list either. My credit card is still connected to a heart and lung machine from all of the Holiday shopping. And yes, my Miterset works just fine (although a little more awkward).

When Kreg first offered their miter gauge, I ordered one for the Shopsmith. I'm not OCD but I do check it before critical cuts. It has never been out of adjustment when checked with the Miterset.
