I have been reading and learning alot of new things on this forum. I was hoping I might provide some help for a few people.

I've been rebuilding an old magna jigsaw and looking for the seal on the input shaft that always leaks only to find none anywhere. Being a retired mechanic of 40 years I started thinking of car parts to use. I found that the shift shaft seal from a 350 chev. transmission will fit perfectly, I used one from a 78 chev. truck, no more leaks.

Hope this will help someone else as much as this forum has helped me.

Ya got a good effective long lasting way to seal the crankcase cover? I thought I did, but the second one I tried it on leaks.

I'm going to try some ultra gray rtv sealer on each side, thin coat.

Thanks for the tip azarcher, you must be a mind reader.

When I unboxed my 31 year old jigsaw and filled the crank case it leaked like a sieve. I replaced the paper gasket with an automotive silicon gasket (blue). Worked like a charm hasn't leaked a drop since.
