I've inherited a vintage '83 ProPlaner which was purchased new by my Dad and I'm now trying to get it in working condition. It's probably been used very
little, if any, in the past 20 years. The current problem is that the feed rollers, despite turning, do not advance the wood at all. The centers of the rollers show some wear but feeding narrow stock to the sides does not work either. I'm guessing that the rollers have lost their ability to grip due to age. Is there any way to rejuvenate them or are new rollers in order?

I don't know about your planer, but a lot of them have an adjustment for feed roller contact pressure. Also, I use acetone instead of mineral spirits, cause it dries fast, and leaves no residue.(oils) On the rubber feed rollers, I like to scuff them with ooo steel wool to roughen them up. jimsjinx

Wax makes a big difference in feed performance, even on the smooth stainless steel bed. I have the serrated feed roller and my planner will occasionally stop feeding. Wax always helps.

Also, rough stock with heavy saw marks will drag on the edge of the bed creating more drag. I usually do a light pass on both faces to knock the heavy ridges down.

Glad to report that I took your advice and the feed mechanism is now working.
Thanks for the help. The next step is to try to remove a couple of small nicks
in the blades.
