I stumbled into a deal on this 510 with band saw and jointer. Wasn't even looking.

You need to be careful with all that stumbling you are doing. You are going to fall one of these days. More pictures??

I would love to acquire a 510 or update my 500 to a 505. Just not in the budget right now (hint, hint).

The first thing that I noticed is that the casters do not work correctly. Comparing them to my 520 in the background something is wrong. I can see one of the cams is not in alignment. They will have to come off and be worked on.

This is a little troubling as well. Looks like metal shavings. Either someone has been cutting metal or ??????

Yes definitely metal. I guess I"ll start disassembly and problem solving.

The cams are secured/oriented by setscrews. One or both are loose/moved. I am guessing the one raising the ss in your pix is the incorrect one(crank not in 'raised' position).

P.S. I assume the 'new' one with 'problem' is the one without cob webs etc.

EDIt2: Closer review with actual properly assembled and operating caster in hand, reveals the one on the left(cob webs etc.) has the crank mounted 180° off(or both cams off the same amount).

Your 'correct' one with one wheel off the floor cornfuzed me! That pix both indicates either your floor is not planer(flat) or the ss is twisted(not likely) and makes Dusty's point regarding the stiffness of this beast. Those legs will only deflect +- 1/16". THAT makes tube alignment all the more critical!

Upon closer review on my end the casters are all fowled up. I am going to have to knock the pins out and reassemble them. Some of the cams are backward as are the foot levers. I wonder if they came for the factory this way?

This is good news on the metal shavings. It appears to be form drilling instead of cutting. It was very hot though and melted into the tie bar guard. I'm not at all sure how it got into the saw guard.

I have decided to completely disassemble, clean and check everything. I have not fired it up yet. I was to busy getting it loaded into my trailer before the guy changed his mind.

Any time I pull a head stock I like to remove and dissemble the carriage assembly to clean the impacted saw dust from the gears. This one is really clean. I will give it a good waxing before reassembly.

Looks like a good find, Like the 520 I walked into retool and found with a complete sawtrain and tons of goodies. I am glad the guy thought SS were not worth handing much and he also was very good on the price. So far everytime he gets a SS part in he calls me and when someone wants to sell a complete one he gives them my number. Been good for some $50 Er's
