It was free.

Now I need to figure out what it has, what is missing, and how to restore this great piece of history.

I don't really know a lot about these yet. As near as I can tell it was probably made late 1951.

I'd appreciate any info people can share about what I have and what is missing. It will help get my research started. The pictures show everything I got.

Below. All the same things from different angles. Sorry, should have clarified sooner.

Only thing I see missing, is a quill advance handle. The headrest is mounted 'too close' in. The speed changer is a nice 'extra'. Good 'find'!

You certainly got a deal there! That speed changer alone is usually "worth" about $100 or so. The table/miter slot extensions are nice little "rare" extras too! There are a couple items that I can't identify and may not go with the Shopsmith, but that's a great machine you have. And you can't beat the price!

In the pic I actually have the SS just sitting on the bench. That's why the rest is too far in. I had to seperate them to shoehorn it into my Subaru Forester. haha

Some of the parts I'm really curious about are the belt sanders and the flat plate. In the last pic you can see two belt sanders. I don't know if someone got two and were raiding parts off one, or what. Also in the last pic, next to the lathe tool rest on the right side of the pic, is a flat plate. Even after going through info in this forum I'm still at a lose about what it is.

I'd like to thank everyone here and elswhere in the 'net who've taken the time to post so much info about these Shopsmiths. It will make bringing this one back to life soo much easier.

Those belt sanders are AMT, like were always advertised on the back cover of mags like PM and MI etc. for many years. They also had a disc sander and the table with the holes in it looks like the table for that. It came with a little miter gauge. The platen on the belt sanders had oblong holes in it and unless you were very careful you could end up with a sanded surface that had high and low spots. You had to keep the piece moving around. That flat plate looks to be attached to one of the brackets for the belt sander (allows it to operate either vertically or horizontally) and is maybe someone's cure for the problem from the holes, IE, a solid platen.
I didn't see a table lifter arm for the main table on the 10. No, wait, I looked again and spotted it on the back post of the table. Mine is on the front post. I have no idea if it matters which post it is on? Looks like a good unit.

Those belt sanders, the flat plate, and the plate with the oblong holes in it were the items I could not identify. I figured someone else could, though.

You've really got a great machine here. The 10ER is a fantastic tool. I have two of them and love them dearly. A little elbow grease and your machine will be as good as new. And you've got the speed changer, table/miter slot extensions, and the original bench legs. And all for free? That's totally made of win!

Thanks heathicus. I agree. The more I've learned about this over the last few days the luckier I consider myself for getting it.
