I don't post here very often but I thought I would post my project. What started out as normal maintenance is now a full blown restoration. I pulled the headstock off to clean and lube. and found a two bearing that needed to be replaced so I decided to do a complete teardown. I got the headstock disassembled and went and got new bearing today, cleaned up the headstock casting and painted. Now it's time to reassemble the headstock and disassemble the frame and clean and paint.
Will ask question if I have any problems as this is a great place to get answers.

Will try post some pictures of my progress. Don't know if this will work but I am trying to add a picture to this post.

Mine is a '55 also, purchased last year and, like you, I went from maintenance to renovation pretty quickly. I took it completely apart and cleaned, lubed, etc. Replaced the quill bearing. Put it all back together and now I'm learning how to use it properly. It came with a bandsaw. I just got (two days ago) a Magna jointer that I think is even older. I plan on posting its renovations on here starting this weekend.

I got the headstock back together and running. Now it's time to start work on the frame. I got all the aluminum parts cleaned up and ready for paint. I think I will have to get the metal legs sand blasted. Just can't get all the rust off with a wire wheel. I am posting some picture of my progress. The first one is the headstock torn down, the second one is the headstock casting after it was painted with Gray Hammered Rust Oleum, and the last one is the headstock reassembled. The belt cover is painted Hammered Verde Green Rust Oleum. Will post more as things progress.

I finished the restoration of my 1955 Mark 5 yesterday. I rebuilt the headstock and striped the old paint and repainted it in Hammered Gray and Verde Green. Then cut it down to a shorty. I am posting some before during and after pictures.
