I have just aquired a Shopsmith with a S/N of 98752.
Does anyone know what the year might be or where I can go to find out?
I believe it is a Mark V.
I know nothing about Shopsmith, other than what I've heard over the years..
It apparently has been sitting for a few years and I intend to do a complete
cleaning and maintenence of the unit. Is there anything that I might look for
that isn't shown in the manuals?
Thanx...

98752 -> 1981 unit (per
http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/serialnumber.htm).
The main thing to do is do a thorough cleaning. Sawdust sessions 21-24 have a good overview of that process:
http://www.shopsmithacademy.com/Sawdust_Sessions.htm
The main thing is to oil the headstock and clean out any sawdust.

Thank you for the info..
Unforetunately, I don't have enough knowledge to know if I need anything.
I am not in the Seattle area. I'm in the deserts of New Mexico.
The manual seems to have a good section on headstock cleaning..That's what I intend to do today.
Thanx again...

The serial number link did not work for me but I think
this one does.
I don't know which manual you have but
this one provides a lot of good information. It along with the info provided in the forum (previous link by damagi) should get you to the point of making sawdust.

Where in New Mexico are you located? I'm in ABQ, but I just recently purchased my first Mark V as well, so I probably don't know much more about it than you do.....

It appears that I have all the original documentation.
There is a cardboard box full of stuff, including the owners manual, several
"how to" books, and various other literature.
I checked out the new link and it works fine. I also had trouble with the previous link, but was able to find the serial number another way.
Again thanx all for the info.
BTW Pessen, I also live in ABQ. I would be interested in seeing your 1981
