Hey woodworkers,

I'll be on the road and passing near Dayton and was wondering if Shopsmith still has an outlet store and if they will still do repairs while you wait when practical? I'll call and ask them the same question but I was wondering if any of you have visited there lately and how you made out. I know they've really downsized the operation and maybe aren't able to do these kinds of things any longer.

If I was going to be in their area, I would stop just to see what I could see. You could say that I am noisy and I would not argue.

1) No outlet store!:(

2) Repair while you wait - I doubt it!:(

3) Call and ask - no harm in asking!;)

4) I would imagine the nature of the 'repair' might have some influence.

I really miss the outlet store. I was in there fairly often. We have several friends in central Ohio and I would stop in Dayton either on the way or coming home.

There was an outlet store in Tulsa when I lived there in the '90s. Sadly, I was there when it closed (but got some good deals). At that time I had my first SS which I bought used that came with all the goodies, bandsaw, jointer, sander and lots of other little stuff. But I was young and foolish and really didn't know what I had, and life hit us between the eyes and I sold it all to a friend who later sold it and who, sadly, was taken long before his time.

There was also a Paxton's Fine Woods store there that stocked all kinds of exotic lumber. That was cool just to walk around and touch stuff.

I stopped by several months ago and got to talk to Linda for a few minutes. I hadn't called ahead, but asked if someone might have the time to show me around. She said that they didn't offer that anymore and everyone was busy. Since I didn't call ahead I wasn't upset about it. I'll be in Dayton later this week, but I don't have plans to visit. If I did I would try to get ahold of Jim McCann in advance and ask him if might have time.
