Beautiful craftsmanship and a really unique design but much, much too fancy for any tools that I might own.
Besides, finding a tool when needed may seem more like a treasure hunt. I would probably need a computer based directory (Google Map).
Did you notice how gingerly Norm handled those tools.

A Stanly #1 plane is worth a few $$$$. That one probably more because of condition.

I will just stick with my peg boards. I can see the tools then. Every time I put the tools in a drawer, I forget where I put it and end up searching for it for 10 minutes.
The design is pretty rediculous though and would be an amazing collection piece to own.

That is quite a collection of tools. It appears that it almost was made just to have a place to keep the tools, as it would have been way to heavy to take to a job site and it would not be practical for a piano owner to bring their piano to his shop, but maybe they did. Definitely a lot of work went into the design and build of the cabinet.

I have seen that great piece a few times before. It would not do for me at all. It is from a different time. Like most such things it makes absolutely no allowance at all for the next new tool. I probably buy more small tools over a single summer of yard sales and flea markets than are in that box.
Like Spiderclimber I like most stuff out where I can see it.

I also believe I have seen this tools chest a number of times. It is fantastic in craftsmanship and layout. To me this speaks of a man with many years of experience in this trade. He knew exactly what tools he needed and how to organize them to be able to get to them efficiently. To me this tool chest is as much a testimony to his design and layout capabilities as it is to his craftsmanship. The use of the inlays and such attests to the fact the builder had ready access to these materials which again speaks of his standing within the world in which he functioned.
