I got this mark V a couple months back and finally got the coupler for the bandsaw attachment so I tried it out and the motor is slipping and has no torque.
It changes speed o.k. but when I try to cut even a thin piece with the saw it slows to nothing altho I can hear the motor is turning.
Hopefully its the drive belt slipping and not the clutch assy.
Any ideas? Suggestions?

There is no clutch.

I would suggest that you open it up and give it a good visual inspection. Check the tension on the belts, especially the drive belt (motor belt).

Which model Mark V do you have? No need to reply. I checked your previous posts. It is a 500.

Have you checked operation with other than the bandsaw?

Can I make these belt adjustments without disassembling too much?

Have you made sure the coupler hubs are securely fastened to their respective shafts?

Do not over tighten the bolt securing the eccentric. Doing so may cause the ears which the screw passes through to crack(break).

As well, make sure the coupler is not worn out inside. There are tabs that slip into the notches of the metal wheels. If those notches are worn away, it'll slip under load.

But first, identify where the slipping is happening.

Sorry Dusty, there is a clutch in all the 54-61 Gilmer drive machines. I have rebuilt and tested Gilmer clutches available. However, I find the set screw for the drive sleeve pulley (Gilmer & Poly-V) can loosen over time causing this problem most of the time.

Remove the belt cover and see what the belts are doing under load.

Thank you for the enlightenment. Actually, this is not the first time I have learned that. I guess I need to go find a 500 to tear apart. Hands-on is the best teacher for me.
