Spent the Afternoon today with Chris Schwarz at the Popular Woodworking shop here in Cincinnati. He talked about his new tool chest book that is going to press tomorrow. He went into great detail on how his chest is built. Very interesting person to listen to. The detail he goes into is amazing. Here are a few photo's I would like to share.

Interesting...I was reading The Toolbox Book. Really cool book to say the least. I will have to check out this one once it comes out.

Super box... I absolutely love wooden boxes. I collect them a tiny bit. Sort of another minor hobby

. I don't have a herd of the big ones because many I find are just too $$$$ for my kind of collecting. Antique buyers snatch them up and price them silly. We have maybe a dozen or so mid sized up to the size of that one of his. In fact I have one very much like the one pictured (much older of course). If I can remember tomorrow I'll try to snap a picture of it. I don't recall how many levels it has. We also have one that style that is about a mid-size. Some are quite plain and rough.
I snarf onto any old wood boxes from mid-size down too. Stuff like old shipping boxes like a dynamite case, an old cartridge case etc. They used to ship all kinds of stuff in neat wooden shipping boxes. Many of them are very nicely built and a lot of them have finger joints at the corners. Most of mine are full of "stuff"...

We have a number of old trunks too including one of those old steamer trunks that you sit up on end and open up and use like a closet with drawers that are right side up in that position. I have a batch of old wooden Velveeta cheese boxes that my father had kept to use as small drawers in the shop. Most of the "stuff" in the boxes are other collections. Wooden cigar boxes are great for smaller stuff like a non-serious pocket knife collection and other "treasures". So are those sliding lid wooden chalk boxes like schools and businesses used to get chalk in all packed in sawdust to keep it from breaking.

I'm pretty sure that I made a post back when I was fairly new here about how making reproduction wooden boxes was one of my big goals for my wood shop. Maybe someday fairly soon... Who ever dreamed that retirement would be so dang busy.

I do not want to be mean or disrespecful Dave
but why do you use a smaller font than most of us ...
I hate to have to look for my glasses to read you ...
So could you use the same size font as most of us, so I can easily read your very good comments.
