Belt drive alternative

Anyone of you tried putting a pulley on the lower motor shaft to run a bandsaw via another pulley on the saw shaft making it belt driven?
It might be a dumb idea but what are the pros-cons?

Using the lower shaft would make the bandsaw a fixed speed. belt driving the bandsaw in this fashion would be similar to what happens with the basic power stand.

Why would be that I can get 2 pulleys and a belt for $12.00 and get the saw running until the drive coupler that is ordered but backordered arrives.
Shopsmith said it might be a while and I need to use the bandsaw now.
If I can't resolve the upper shaft slippage problem at a low cost then at least the saw will work off the main motor shaft.

Yes, I admit this is how I do things.
But that's because I have the older 10er, not the Mark V. Speed control for me is in the belt/pulley combination.

WHY?

Can't you get just about any speed you want by using the right combination of pulleys with the variable speed drive?

I believe that that shaft turns 1.6 times faster, than the top one.

Well I got the coupling package from Shopsmith so problem solved right?
Wrong!!! The accessories hub has 4 spline grooves but the plastic coupling shaft has 5 splines on that end.
So back to the pulley drive...
Anyone know the rpm's of the mark V drive motor?
I can figure out the nessessary speed by sizing the pulley ratios
On with the show...

I like this thread. Altough I am not brainy enough to contribute, this is the kind of thought provoking subject that is the mother of invention. Who knows, wheather answering the question or not or just asking why, someone may be on the verge of a new use for the Shopsmith whether it be the bandsaw or something else.
