What the heck is ths, and how do i fix it?

My Shopsmith was squeaking and grinding; I took the cover off, and this is what I found.
What are these things called, and is it something I should be able to fix?

Was a PIC supposed to be attached?

That would be the outer bearing race from the main shaft bearing. Looks like the bearing is toast. Pretty easy fix if you have the right tools to remove it and remove the bearings from the shaft.

The ring is the shield, and the inner mangled parts that pushed the shield out is the ball spacer ring.
Yes the bearing is toast!
Do not run it this way!
