Looks like a GREAT deal! However, I do not have a Hook disk on my disc. I guess I will need to be on the hunt for one.

I found a couple of old adhesive backed discs. Is there anything I should know in getting them to stick to my steel disc?

What is a hook and loop sanding dics, I only know of stick on sanding dics. I have been out of woodworking for about 20 years, I have alot of catching up to do.

It is a type of industrial grade velcro. You attach a velcro disk to the sanding disk (self adhesive). Then you can attach/remove the sanding disk which has a velcro backing.

Downside - a sanding disk becomes dedicated to velcro sanding disk application. Flip side - the sanding disk is dedicated to self adhesive sanding disk applications. I use both and cannot rate one over the other. Only tangible advantage might be that you can change sand paper and still reuse the sandpaper.

The velcro is not suitable for grinding/sharpening. Nor IMO used to dimension stock using the rip fence.

Is the self adhesive flat disc ok to use to dimension stock? I've seen the conical one used for that.

YES! The 'issue' with the velcro is its dimensional instability. It compresses with applied pressure.

Check 'edge sanding'. http://www.shopsmith.com/academy/discsand/index.htm#edge

Thanks for the "edge sanding link" I would never have thought to offset the fence or run the board through the back side.

The cheap sanding disc price is gone. I tried to order some when they were $1.51 and my order didn't go through. When I clicked on "Order Status" it says "no records found". I never got a order number either. Oh well better luck next time.
