Hello everyone. I am a new owner of an old Mark V and a mark V11. A good friend of mine had given me his Mark V to make some room in his garage. it needs some work and some cleaning, but was complete. I went on Craigslist to find some parts for the new to me machine and found a Mark V11 with a jig saw, mortise set up and all parts for $150 locally. i jumped all over it immediately! To my surprise he also included boxes of extra parts and manual with the sale. It was his grandfathers and had been sitting in the garage for almost 15 years.
My hopes are to rebuild the Mark V headstock and refurbish the Mark V11 base and combine them. I love the option to flip the table both ways for routing as well.
I hope to have some pictures up for you soon of my new to me toys. They both need some elbow grease, but i look forward to the rebuilds!

Has anyone here ever taken a Mark V head and put it on a Mark V11 body? I wouldn't mind just keeping the Mark V11 head on but it is much easier to find Mark V parts from what I gather. Both heads are in working order.

The The Mark V headstock will fit on the Mark VII after you remove the rack from the way tube on the Mark VII.

The unique feature of the Mark VII in addition to the flip both ways, is the reversible direction of the output shafts(motor run direction reversible). A Mark V only runs one direction.

The reverse direction was included for the under table shaping/routing.

Yup - in fact, thats what shopsmith says to do on their website. If you are feeling really resourceful, you can take the motor out of the Mark VII headstock and use it on the Mark V headstock to allow for forward and reverse operation.

Will get a bit crowded in the motor pan unless you cut off the backside shaft(think vacuum blower). Neat Idea! Now about the power switch. . .

I do really like that idea. I will have to look into that. The forward,reverse and blower all work well on the Mark V11.

Like I said -you need to be resourceful. i have a mark vii motor in the garage right now that was originally slated for a shorty.

the back shaft will need to be cut
the mount will need to be modified
the switch setup will need to be mounted or modified

Could turn out be be a pretty unique and practical machine!

I just want to say how impressed I am with the new member information section! An endless amount of information for the newbie like myself. Thanks to all who have donated to the information!
