I spoke with a very nice lady this morning (the line was bad) but I understood that SS doe not ship to CANADA right now.
Too many complications, too many papers, not enough staff to care about that.
I ask them to look into it because we will never be able to participate in special offers that they make through the net even if we phone before 5pm on Friday.
I suggested that US postal services were very good and simpler to use. Others like UPS and FedEX make it difficult. They use FedEX.
There is no need for a broker, since 2004 which was the 10th anniversary of NAFTA, there is no more duties for products made in the US.
To top it all the canadian $ is at par with the US $ right now. With credit card today it is easy to pay in US $. Even if shipping would have been 30$ or 40$, I would have still had it for 85$ cheaper that from a Canadian Distributor carrying Nova products for example.
So I am sad to report that I will not get my birthday gift from Shopsmith this year, maybe next year.
The only way would be to have a state address and have somebody ship it to me.
Shopsmith should be my state address, do'nt you think so ?
I live north of Maine, about 200 km (2 hours drive one way) from Jackman, Maine. I do not know anyone in the states, but I know Shopsmith very well and I would be very confidant to give them my money for their product.

Do I understand correctly that you could place an order with Shopsmith using your credit card (or PayPal) and thenthey would accept that order as long as the shipping address was within the continental US.

If so, all you need is a cooperating sole to accept the goods (stateside) and reship them to you in Canada.

I would volunteer to do that for you. UPS and USPS are less than 4 miles from where I live. Shipping costs are available online.

The do not accept paypal but sure accept credit card.
Ya, you understood well, I would need a stateside sole, but have you look were Quebec city is, I am nearer Dayton than you are.
Anyway the sale is over. I will hope that Shopsmith starts to sell to canadian soon. They will be thinking about it.
By the way I would never use UPS. The only way to order something from the states is US postal service. UPS has all kind of fees and by the time it gets to me c.o.d it will have triple the cost of shipping + taxes.
Thanks for offering your services but you are too far from me.

I think what Dusty meant is the same as I'm going to offer.

If you want to order something you can pay for it and ship it to my house here in the U.S. (Michigan). You pay the additional shipping from my house to your house and I'll ship it to you thru USPS. No problem. If you ask really nice and tell them your solution to the shipping issue and they may let you get it anyways - can't hurt to ask.

I am nearer Dayton than you are.

I'm only a 6 hour drive should you wish to have Shopsmith ship it to my home and drive down to pick it up. Or, if 6 hours is too far to drive (even on a nice sunny day), I'll ship it to you via USPS and Canadian Post.

Thanks, I will phone SS and ask them if they will do that. I will ask very nicely.
You are about the nearest member from me, so I'll pm you for your address.

Well, thank you all.
I have had many offers and I am considering all of them, but anmius seem to be the nearest to me, so I contacted him and will see from there.
I am very lucky to be on this forum and to get to know so many of you.
Have a nice day all of you that read my post ... and care.

As you probably know now, I found a very nice American neighbour that accepted to ship to me an item that I wanted to buy for my birthday from Shopsmith specials offers.
A representative of Shopsmith even told me that they are thinking about shipping directly to Canadian soon, so we may see some development in that story.
These specials could not be obtained through the Canadian reseller (All in one tools).
I felt that it was a kind of an injustice that we were not entitled to these, after all we as Canadian owners want to see Shopsmith thrive, we are proud to own a Mark V and some of us even own a greenie, as they were sold in hardware stores in Canada in the 60's.
So there will be a good ending to this story.
Looking forward to buy a PowerPro/Mark7 upgrade soon.
