I was about to get a set of retractable casters used, when I went to shopsmith on line and saw that there were different #s for the mk-v casters and the accessory power station casters. However they are the same price is there any difference between the two or is it just some catalog thing. If so how do I tell the difference with the one I am about to get used.

The power station has spacers and longer screws. - Common standard hardware items.

Does this mean you can use the Shopsmith Mark V casters on a power station? How?

Yes. The caster assemblies are the same but the mounting hardware is different. As stated, spacers are required for the power station that are not required for the Mark V. The spacers necessitate longer screws. The spacers are 3/4" in diameter and 7/16" thick and have a 1/4" screw hole.

One Caveat! The older casters positioned the crank out towards the end of the cam shaft. The current version has the crank in towards the center. The older ones will not clear the power station leg.

I called CS, rep said new premium casters for Mark V/7 only; not for power station...

I hear ya man but I don't understand. I'd have to try it first. Unless you are talking about the caster set and not just the wheels but I am unaware that anything other than the wheels has changed.

PS: On second thought, I might have to give on this. The online ad even states that the newer, larger wheels work only on the Mark V/7. The new wheels appear to be much larger and the legs likely interfere with the wheels when they swivel. Scroll to the bottom of the page and read the note.

The crank arm clears the horizontal leg brace by less than 1" on the power station. I assume other stands would have a similar problem. The caster mounts 1 5/8" higher on the leg and that would cause the foot pedal to interfere with the brace.

I have not tried the new wheel set on the power station. I did purchase a power station a couple of years ago. The wheel set that came with it did not fit. The Mark V/7 NEW wheel set comes with a new set of nuts and bolts along with templates illustrating how to re-space the new holes for mounting. The new set up rolls very easily in all directions. I truly like the heavy duty larger wheels and am thrilled with the way the templates enabled me to space the install so that nothing hangs up. Fjimp

Another 'mystery'?

The power station needs 9/16" spacers and longer screws.

It also must have the foot pedal located towards the center from the older location.

Other than that, why did they not fit?
