Nova just introduced a DVR Remote, I hope Shopsmith makes this available for the PowerPro.
SKU: 55518

From the Nova Site

• Convenient wireless wrist/magnetic remote for safe and easy
adjustments without leaving your project

• Start, Stop and Speed adjustments

• Comes standard on the NOVA DVR 2024 lathe. Also available as
accessory upgrade for all other NOVA DVR XP lathes. Note: Please
look for Remote Enabled™ on your NOVA DVR lathe)

• Convenient wrist strap or magnetic back allows you to position
the remote exactly “where you want it” - on your wrist or on your
NOVA DVR Lathe. A remote that will never get lost!

• Invaluable when doing long spindle work or large platters/bowls

I don't think I'd go for it, but then again, I didn't think I'd be interested in upgrading to a PowerPro either. Did you think about contacting Nova directly? I would think since they and Shopsmith have partnered on the new technology, maybe they would have a solution. Unless the two companies have an agreement not to intrude into each other's turf.

I think this 'detail' narrows it down.

The PowerPro is newer then the newest Nova lathe with the sticker, it may just be that Shopsmith did not want to open that can of worms yet.

One can hope.

A remote may be useful, but you still need to press a button.

What I would find more useful is a voice command to shut off the machine. In a situation where a kickback or binding may be about to occur, you could keep both hands on the workpiece and quickly say "STOP".

This could also be SS's response to the SawStop issue. If the voice command hears a scream or a profanity then it would activate an electronic brake and stop the blade in milliseconds. :D

DVR Control - for the PowerPro???

I must be missing something here! Why would anyone want to be able to turn a table saw or drill press or lathe on/off while standing somewhere removed from same.

It has been my experience the damage is long done before any screaming or cursing takes place. In fact the order of things usually has screaming and cursing after crapping of the pants.

I think the sequence is
Do something stupid.
Reap the reward for that stupidity.
Crap your pants
Starting screaming and cursing.
Run to wife to have boo boo fixed or for a ride to hospital.
Realize you have a load in your pants.
Wrap towel around wound and manly excuse yourself so you can clean your pants.
Re-enter the room and resume cursing and screaming. :D

Dusty- if you're hollowing out a bowl or a vessel while using the lathe, you might be standing pretty far from the power switch. A number of the more expensive lathes have the on/off button and the speed control on a separate box with a long cable, so you can (magnetically) attach it to the lathe within convenient reach.

Also, sometimes when I'm using the bandsaw, I wish it wasn't such a long reach to the power switch.

OK, if you say so as a turner then I must respect that. I am not a turner so I have no basis.

I think I would rather have an umbilical cord for a switch box on a lathe. I have the bandsaw on a Power Station and have no complaint about the switch location.

I think you can only change the speed or turn it off. My concern it turning it off. I have been cutting heavy oak for the past few days and I hate letting it go (even with outfeed tables) and then hunting for the off switch under the table.
