Would you buy a 1957 "Greenie" for $1000?

Several weeks ago, a friend at work emailed me that there was a Shopsmith for sale at the Benton County Habitat for Humanity "ReStore" for $1000. I figured it was a newer model, and hadn't had a chance to stop by there until today.
It looks to be in very good condition. It has been modified, appears some holes were drilled into the carriage and head rest. No lathe tools, no sanding disc, no drive center, but the tailstock center was seized in the tailstock. One saw blade, no Jacobs chuck, half of the mortising jig with a 3/8" or 1/2" chisel mortise bit. The way tubes look good, as does the headstock, and all the sheet metal. It has an extra carriage and extra table/rip fence. It has the upper saw guard, but no lower saw guard. It also has a jointer.
Its clearly a Greenie, there is an extra gilmer belt in the box. The headstock serial number dates it to 1957 or so and the color matches.
I tried to offer them $100 for the jointer, the half of the mortising jig I don't have, and the coupler. They were not interested in splitting it up, I told them good luck getting a grand out of it. Most people could buy 3 for that much, or a much newer model.
I think someone had a Greenie, and bought a newer Mark V 500 (grey), and then upgraded their table/fence system and donated the leftovers to Habitat.
Its a shame the guy was adamant about getting $1000 for it. He said, "we had someone contact us by email about it," which I replied that person was me.........
Maybe I'll take them the half of my mortising jig since I got a complete set on eBay......

I saw the same one right after the fourth. Got into a discussion about it with "salesman" who told me what a freat deal it was. I mentioned I had 2 shopsmiths I got for less than 500 apiece, he said yeah, but this has a jointer too. Mine came w/ jointer, bandsaw, jigsaw and belt sander.
Corvallis {benton county] restore has a large and everchanging ssupply of goods. Some are a good deal. Some....
Regardless of what you or I think, they can and will sell almost anything they put out on the flor. Might take a while. They had a 10er set up as a drill press that was there forever.
Try Linn county restore in Albany as they have much better prices.
And for a really good deal I saw a nice looking SawSmith on Portland Craigs for 75 the other day. good saw, use mine a lot

Obviously you ran across someone who has no idea what a greenie is actually worth or anything else about Shopsmith, and it shows in the way he treated you. Sometimes you get people who know nothing and want the world for their machinery and other times they know nothing and sell their stuff for next to nothing. Remember that there are a lot of fish in the sea, and lots of older Shopsmith machinery out there there are a lot of Shopsmith owners that know their stuff and are ready to bargain. Keep hunting

I've got 2 Greenies already. I was looking for accessories and/or SPT's.
I got one for $200 and the other for $80. Both run, but need TLC and some new parts.
