I just picked up an old Shop Smith 3 weeks ago. The Gilmer belt broke a week ago and I ordered a new one and a new drive belt. I have put them on but can't seem to get things lined up properly. I live in Vancouver, Wa. and am hoping someone here in the Portland area who understands these things could help me. Please call me at 360-693-3526.

I am up in seattle area, but if you want to come this direction we can get your headstock up and going. Also, paulm is down in beaverton I think

I am not terribly familiar with the Greenie system. I am having trouble with your description of things lining up. There is no real alignment to be done. At least there is nothing that has to be timed or keyed to another function.
So I am assuming that you mean getting the upper drive shaft pully and belt aligned with the intermediate shaft pully so the gilmer belt tracks properly. I believe that if the drive shaft (upper) is seated in the headstock properly it will be held by the spring retaining clips and will be properly positioned.
The intermediate shaft can be moved a slight bit in the bore and secured by the bolt that goes between the clamping ears on the headstock casting. The belt (Gilmer) should ride flat on both of these pullies.
If you have any problems a call to Bill Mayo on this forum will get you straightened out in a hurry. Bill has repaired a great many Greenie headstocks and I am sure he can talk you through your problem. Also try through his site at Billstoolz.com

Thanks for the replies gentlemen. Also someone from Beaverton called me - I think his name was Paul- but he had to go before we finished our discussion. I was in hopes of finding someone close who could come by and see what I need. May need a new speed controller too because I broke part of the spring off it when trying to get the pin off.
