Got a book someone on this forum recommended. How to make Animated Toys So this is from a scrap of oak, I think. Original pattern cut with two boards glued together to make 1 7/8". After sanding about 1 3/4".

Very nice! You can't beat the classic style and quality of a wooden pull toy!

Good present for the parents also. No batteries, no noise. Not that those ever stopped me from any grandkid gifts anyway.

Agreed that I do like the quiet and no batteries. Had to do some testing to ensure that I bored the holes in the wheels just right. After the child leaves, still have to test it to ensure it still works as designed.

Another one built exclusively on a Shopsmith.

I love it! A wonderful keepsake for a child.

Super nice gift that will surely become a hand-me-down/family treasure for years to come, after plenty of use. Very hard to break and easy to repair.

About the batteries, I made a small poster for use at craft shows when I sold toys and puzzles.it read

* No batteries needed
* Powered by imagination.

People liked the poster but I'm not sure it boosted sales:D

Thanks, folks for your kind words and support. Other than the wheels, all was done with the 1985 Shopsmith Mark V. The total width of the two pieces of oak was 1 7/8" cut with bandsaw 1/8" blade.

It's a great idea sir and I have 2 little grandkids who would love this.......permission to copy...

How can I smooth wheels out consistantly if I were to cut blanks with a hole saw??
