In case you were wondering if this project died, no it's alive and progressing:
1. The new feed motor and upgrades are complete and have been tested.
2. The new controller box is complete and was painted last night. It too has been tested.
3. I've started the modifications to the Shopsmith controller box, but it's still a work in progress. It will now house everything as before, but with the addition of surge protection and a circuit breaker.

There have been no documentation updates and there won't be until I'm done. There was some feedback from the first version, but none from the second. So it doesn't make sense to detail everything when I would have to just go back and make changes when I find a problem or find a better way to do things. That slowed me down a lot.

Any further updates on this? Or photos of the finished product? I have my controller, and will probably order more of the parts this weekend. Its about time I used my soldering skills on a shopsmith related project

Instead of extending the housing, did you consider cutting off the shaft a little? Since you are already modifying the motor for the thermal protection, seems like one extra step that would save the cost/hassle of doing the aluminum spacer.

Just curious, did you ever consider replacing the cutter motor with something that was DC? I have a spare treadmill motor setup (leftover from a planned 10ER upgrade), so that could be interesting.

All that's left is wrapping up the modifications to the original control module, which is significant, and then final test and calibration. I would suspect that you would see the final document in about 3 weeks.

Cutting the shaft was an option. The downsides:
- tough steel to cut
- shortening means you lose the keyways

If the issue is how far it sticks out then they do make right angle drives.
