Got a set of SS retractable casters off of EBay that I plan to adapt to my new workbench. They clean up pretty well using a wire wheel. I also found out that a 16 penny nail with the point cut off is just the right size for use as a pin punch for disassembly. Here's some before/after pix...

I've got a couple of projects looking like the before picture, looks like they will clean up nice. Any plans to keep the round stock from re-rusting?

I used Penatrol http://www.flood.com/paint-additive-sol ... oductId=11 on mine the stuff is great, it puts a coating in the parts that you can't see so you get to keep the clean look without painting. I dipped them in a small tray of the stuff then hung them to dry for a day. They look the same today as they did months ago when I did them (with a little saw dust coating)

Ed in Tampa introduced me to this product (penatrol) a few years back and I've used for lots of things since (thanks Ed!). You are right that is a good product.

Just seeing what other ideas other users might have up their sleeves, always nice to learn from other here.

Any ideas why is says for use with "exterior" oil based paint only?

Tried to buy any 'interior' oil based paint lately?

Perhaps there is one too many words in that instruction.

EXCELLENT tip on the Penetrol, I want to refurb my casters also, It seems to be a common rust issue.

Yes, Sherwin Williams sells oil-based interior paint and I'm sure other do as well, although it's clearly not a popular as it used to be. So back to the original question, any ideas why this product specifies exterior paint only?

I guess it depends on where you read. The can says nothing about interior/exterior issues...

I've never added to paint, just use it straight from the can, no mixing, 100% Penetrol on bare metal per the can instructions. I've also never used it like this:

"Note: For brass, copper, aluminum and chrome, scrub surface with fine steel wool soaked in Penetrol and polish with a clean rag."

Maybe I'd like it for these materials too.
