How much slack are you talking about?

I think the first thing I would try would be some self adhesive foam insulation around the waist of the dust collector. It would be inside the bag while the strap would be outside.

If you have the right tools to relocate the buckle on the original strap, I can see that working (just don't move it too far).

The part is available from Shopsmith though. I bought a new one but I don't remember why. It had to be a real necessity. I'm frugal about that sort of thing.

I even reuse the dust bags.

Dave, I think mine (purchased new in 2004) is just a big hose clamp. To empty the bag, I loosen the hose clamp and just drop it onto the bottom of the DC3300. To install a new bag, I hold the bag in place with the three retaining clips, temporarily hold the hose clamp in place with masking tape, then tighten the hose clamp. (If I just had 4 hands, I wouldn't need the masking tape, but whatever works!)

A large hose clamp is used to secure the filter hood on my 1995 model and looks like it would work for the dust bag as well.

I sometimes wish I had an extra pair of hands also, but I can be clumsy with 2 hands some days. 4 hands would get me in more trouble I think:D

My 'clamp' is a nylon strap with an adjustable flip clamp. It does tend to be a bit 'loose'. I have fought the excess bag diameter slipping down also. Right now I am trying a 'glad' brand cinch bag. Not transparent, but I have not 'tested' it enough to know if it will work.

The replacement band is metal. I pull enough of the bag up above the band so that after it is secured I can hold the bag over the band and back down. The theory is that this resists the bag from pulling out.

I too have had the dust collector bag come off while in operation and blow saw dust all over the shop. Not good.

I do not remember where I saw a DC 3300 with the clamp style fastener for the bag. Mine which was purchased in 2006 has the hose clamp others describe. I do remember a visitor to my shop commenting he planned to order the newer style hose clamp as it is clearly much tighter. Fjimp

Had the same problem as you. I used self adhesive foam insulation but installed it onto the dust collector, not the strap. Does seem to help.
But installing it onto the strap would be better I think.

My DC3300 has a nylon strap with a metal toggle type clamp on it. You tighten the clamp and when you toggle it, the tension is to keep it closed.
To little tension and the clamp pops open on it own, too much and you can't close or toggle the clamp.

Also the two clasp is like two hands if you think of cupping you hand and hooklng you fingers of one hand over the finger of they other, you get the idea. I don't remember exactly but I know you have to play around with which part of the clamp Right side or left is on the top and which is on the bottom. If you get it reversed the clamp will pop open. I just note which way mine is before I loosen it and put it back the same way.

I would love to have an all metal one and I might just order a new one to see what I get. However I'm as frugal (read cheap) as Dusty so I won't rush into it.
