casters broke

Has anyone ever gone to a hardware store or big box and got a replacemant wheel for one of their SS?
I had one fall apart today, and I am not interested in the big and better ones that SS has so a replacement wheel would be all I need, but a quick stop at the local store to replace just the wheel that would fit in the SS set would be a lot nice than waiting for one in the mail.

I repaired one using a cheap caster from Harbor Freight. Bought one with the same size wheel, removed the wheels and axles from both casters using a Dremel, bored the new wheel to accept a 1/4" piece of drill rod for the new axle, and peened the axle ends to keep the assembly together.

There are several threads here about replacing the wheels of Shopsmith caster using a 1/4" bolt, washer and locknut after drilling out the old axle. You can get wheels locally at a caster store or good hardware store, I was surprised how many caster stores there are around the country when you Google it.

You might not realize it but you don't have to buy the new improved caster from Shopsmith. They also still supply the old standard black caster. They're only about $4. Granted you have to pay shipping.

I've got several stock casters you can have for.... wait for it........FREE.
Just the cost of first class mail and they are yours, or one or whatever.
