Been browsing some old Woodsmiths and the SS Forum, see lotsa references to various materials like hardboard, Masonite, tempered hardboard, tempered Masonite, MDF, etc. and after browsing the local Lowes got curious about what the prices are where you are.
Most common call, for instance, is for MDF because it so stable and cheap. Well, that depends. Take MDF-- first thing I'd have to take out a second mortgage to buy a sheet, and if I carried it home on top my truck the humidity would probably make 1/2" sheet more like 3/4" by the time I got there. Masonite? I haven't seen the good stuff for over 15 years.
There's no comparison, but I am curious what a good sheet of 3/4 MDF sells for back on the mainland.
So I can daydream, and drool...
