darn Demos at Lowe's...

Just stopped by the SS demo at the Lowe's in Manassas on Saturday to see the PowerPro in action... no intention of buying (trying to deal with that old "want versus need" thing). Felt very proud of myself, had a very nice chat with David Folkerth who was doing the demo, but left with just his card and a signed PowerPro flyer.
Worked all day Sunday on cleaning up garage and decided to go out for dinner... quick stop to show the other half what the new Shopsmith looks like and such before hitting the restaurant. I'm sure you can guess the rest... new PowerPro DIY Upgrade, Mk VII Tilting System and 510 to 520 upgrade.
I didn't even know I needed any of these... but I sure wanted them
Just took birthday and Xmas off the list. Now the watching for boxes shall commence!

That closely described how I got mine, my wife even paid for it with her credit card.

That is how I got mine about 8 years ago. Went to just look, and the wife ask if I would like one. The wait for the boxes was a killer.

That's what I did last in Sept. I am having a great time with my new SS I bought the replacement head & tilt for my old 520.

Unfortunately they stopped demos in the UK a few years back, when the demonstrator absconded with the equipment. I don't think the Police have caught up with him yet.
I first saw the MKV at a housebuilding exhibition and it went straight on my 'must have one' list. There was a big difference in the US/UK price at the time and I couldn't afford a new one. I eventually bid for one on eBay and travelled 200 miles to collect it. It was a good deal, with the DC, bandsaw and jointer thrown in. The headstock needed a new belt, but the rest was OK. I upgraded to the 520 over a time and bought a load of accessories. Vacations in the USA were good because I could collect and save a lot on shipping.

Anything costing a dollar in America seems to cost us at least a quid although our bank bailouts are a bit cheaper.
btw, we'd love to have VAT (sales tax) at just 9%

We might think a VAT at 9% would be good but the way it really works here it would probably come out to be much more than that (hidden taxes you know).
I am a real skeptic - especially of this 9-9-9 deal.
