1911 Grips

Started my 1911 grips today I got them traced, roughed out, and ripped to just little over 1/4 inch today. After the boss goes to bed I am going to go drill the screw holes.

Grips are done. SS did 90% of the work. Band saw, Sander, and Drill. Finished them with about 1 part Linseed oil 2 parts Mineral spirits. I like old traditional style of finishing. Got some tweaks and stuff to change to help make it easier safer and a better final product. This is my first "woodworking" project I have done since high school 11 years ago. Always been doing stuff around the house but haven't really made anything since wood shop.

Nice job! IMHO walnut deserves oil, not poly etc.
It will change color as it 'dries' over time, but fresh oil will bring it back. It will also take in some persperation and get color alteration that way.
I do not like highly polished not sliding surfaces on working handles.
I figgered out what a 1911 is!;)

The pictures look like a short recoil .45 caliber Colt or Remington hand gun. What's the clue?

This one is a Norinco(chinese copy of the 1911) i collect 1911s I have a colt, remington, springfield, rock island, armscore, norinco, an a custom built one from a local gun builder.

Project came out very nice. I too like the look of the oil finish.
