Report on my demo experience (Kansas City)

With a bit of gleeful anticipation, I headed out Monday morning to attend my first SS demo in, well, a jillion years. The site was the Lowes Store here in Independence, Missouri just a few miles down the road.

Demo was about 15 minutes (maybe longer - I wasn't tracking the time) and actually didn't cover the sandpaper at all (although I did take a look at it on my way out of the store). Covered the Power Pro (what a sweet addition that is) and the Lift Assist (wish I could spring for one of those). Our SS guy (name was Mike) could really use the tools and the Power Pro head didn't even blink as he threw the load to it.

There was maybe 6 of us there and I think the average age was over 70. Then again, as my wife pointed out, maybe it had something to do with the time (10 AM) and it was a week day. Could be.

This was also the first time I had seen the dust collector (DC3000????) and I was quite surprised at how quiet it was. Nothing new to the rest of you but new to me anyways.

I didn't buy anything but I sure would have liked to! Convert my 510 to a 520, add the lift assist and the Power Pro. Oh, boy. Well, maybe next year.

Thanks for the review. There is a demo at the Boardman, Ohio Lowes concluding today, 11/16/11. I am about 10-15 min from it and plan to attend it with my Uncle later today. At least I know what to expect. Did you get your CD?

I have no way of knowing how well this is working for Shopsmith but I certainly wish them well. It is nice to see them being publicly seen again.
I like to sit and wistfully think that they will do well and start the factory store back up. In extra wistful moments I even wish for a return of a store in Indy like the one where I bought my first one (510) in 1988.
As I said, I wish them well...

Don't think we will ever see shopsmith stores again. I often wonder what happened to the guys at the Cincinnati store. Bruce, Duke, Pete and others.
They were great stores. I went to the Cincinnati store to buy a bandsaw. I was shocked as they were just about cleaned out. I drove to Dayton and purchased one from the factory store.
