Super job, Gene!

Our PO box when I was a kid was exactly like these. I believe it was a 3 character combination. They 'upgraded' the mailboxes with the same style, but there were numbers on the plate instead of alpha characters. There were about 40 boxes total in the PO and my Dad was the mail man that carried the rural route out of that PO:)

Good memories!

I was living in Lakeside, Montana at the time when I had the opportunity to acquire about 50 of those mail boxes. I passed. Later I acquire two from a different source. Now I wish I had all of them.

They closed the PO in St. Vrain, NM....where I grew up....2 or 3 years ago. I tried everything I could try to buy the mailboxes and the old quarter-sawn white oak mail sorting table where Dad used to 'case' the mail before loading up to go on the route. But, to no avail. "We are going to give the boxes and sorting table to a local museum.", was the reply. Well, that didn't happen either (I'm from the Guvment, and I'm here to help")

The sorting table was similar to this one I saw in Charleston, SC. The exception was where the 'cubbies' in the Charleston version has metal dividers, the one Dad used had 1/4" oak dividers in dados. The base table is identical....drawers and all.

Life moves on.....don't know where I would put the table where I live now anyway. Would rather be where I am now instead of where I was before anywho :D

Those Grands should cherish these for a long time. Like the choice of wood you used. Very nice.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments.
The wife wrote a note to the Grandkids (4 and 5 Y.O.) telling them that even though they look like toys, they are actually their investments for their futures.
