Potpourri for Dec 2011

A while back a new thread was created each month for posting comments relating to anything that came to mind.
Some folks get riled up over rambling 'off subject' in 'woodworking' forum threads. Tis human nature(at least 'natural' for myself) to ramble so IMHO.
However in an effort to reduce their blood pressure. I am again starting the potpourri thread(s).
Perhaps as a compromise to rambling in a thread, one could post a reference to a post here for further discussion once an off topic comment has arisen. A reference to the post# would be helpful(edit original after posting here)
So post here whatever suits yer fancy:)!!

Remember - no woodworking discussions in the Community Forum. Nothing riles me up more than discussing woodworking when you are suppose to be debating politics or religion.
Since I must resist rambling "off topic", I will be greatly handicapped. There will be a lot less for me to rant about.

Hmmm, A wood working related discussion in the community forum.
The comments that I read were widely varied but I had the impression that the majority favored some sort of action that would ultimately require flesh detection measures.
I remain impressed with the technology; but I also remain against it being made mandatory. Let the market place decide.

Today my sister-in-law sent us a half dozen pictures of snow flurries from Desert Mountain, outside Phoenix.
I live in Minnesota. We have snow from November through May. So why would I be interested in a couple of flurries that don't last as long as an ice cream cone???? And why do people who live were its' warm and sunny all the time think snow is FUN????
The Winter Solstice is 18 days away and I'm already looking forward to spring.
We usually have a three B's party for the Winter Solstice. (brat, beer, bonfire) It's nowhere near halfway but the daylight does start getting longer.
We had an exceptionally warm autumn. I walked down to the lake this morning and the ice is very thin. It'll be weeks before we can drive on it.

Being from Michigan I hear ya brother!
The next one of my relatives who live in Florida that tell me how lucky I am when we get 9" of "pretty" snow on top of 1/2" of ice for the work commute:mad: I am going to shanghi and make them drive a rear wheel drive car with bald tires home.
Not to mention that it's dark at 5:30 pm and the sun don't peek out until 7:30 am or so.

Get them one with rear wheel steering!:eek: Then they can experience the 'joy' on dry pavement!:D
