Newbie owner of (free) old Mark 5 (greenie)

A friend from work gave me this old Mark 5 that his father bought new around 1958-59. It had been sitting around unused for quite a few years.

It came with all the basic accessories plus the jointer and bandsaw, along with shaper bits, extra sanding disc, expendibles and misc. accessories.

I wasn't sure of what I was going to do with it when it was offered to me, sight unseen. I've had a garage full of woodworking tools, some of which I hadn't used in a while since I have too many hobbies already. I decided to sell off a few tools to make room for the Shopsmith.

The thing was pretty rough around the edges, so I immediately dismantled it when I got it home and started to refinish it. After about 2 1/2 weeks, I'm pretty close to having it up and running. I just broke the way tube tie bar so I had to order a replacement.

I stripped off all the flaking paint and painted it with a hammered green finish. I know it doesn't match the existing, but I like it. Same with the fact that I painted the headstock casing. My choice.

Anyway, for free, I think I got the better end of the deal.

You doing good!!!!!!

Notice pix 9 - upper hub reversed(the skinny part faces the headstock)
...................The gilmer belt is riding too far back. I believe the idler shaft needs to be inserted further into the headstock..

Those caster cleaned up real nice. They really looked rough before(especially the springs).

Jpg must have posted just as I did. I almost said something about jpg coming along with some details I would miss. There is big help on this forum.

It is the black grooved drive hub (for attachments) at the extreme left end of the upper shaft (at the very bottom of picture 9).

Looks very nice. Makes you feel good doesn't it.

Notice the difference between the hub mounted in pix 9 and pix 14. Pix 9 is 'correct'. Edit Change '9' to 8. Both 9 and 14 show it backwards.

How are they different? and I think they are unlike the hub I have on mine.

Got it.
The accessory hub.
Yes, it is the same in pics 9 and 14, becuase I never removed it since I got the thing.
However, just removed it yesterday and flipped it around - stripped the threads on the hex screw - ordering a new accessory hub.
At least when I get it, I'll know how it's supposed to be installed.
