Had a good week!

Inspired by Culprit's post, I attempted to make some turned parts on my ShopSmith. This is the first time I have touched a lathe since the 7th grade. Had a blast! :-)
Two things I quickly learned: 1) dull tools are no fun! and 2) pine is difficult to turn, poplar is much better. I didn't know how to sharpen my gouges so I did some research on the internet. I found the instructions on how to build the grinding jig you see in the 3rd photo.

I know you guys like pics, so here are a couple. . .
The pine turnings came after I learned how to sharpen my chisels. The cabinetmaker's mallet came after I tired of fighting with pine and glued up some poplar I had.
The second good thing that happened to me this week was my neighbor. He gave me a big bunch of oak boards. I have some questions about these boards so you can see pics on a separate thread.
