I'm the original owner of a 1986 Mark V machine.

Yesterday it broke. I've determined that I most likely bent the speed control assembly unit, (due to turning it with force when it probably needing cleaning). This action also causing the bearing to be pushed out about 3/4 inch and the sheaths are now longer aligned and the motor now causes the breaker to trip.

I could probably use a new main motor belt since mine is 25 years old.

My question is since I really don't have the time to take it apart, purchase parts, install them, (hopefully correctly) to get it running properly: would be to send the headstock to either Shopsmith or a Authorized Repair Center to have the work completed.

Does Shopsmith offer repair service, or which repair facility would you recommend? I'm in Wichita, Kansas. Thanks!

Too bad you are not closer to Plant City FL.

I would think shipping to/from Dayton a bit pricey.

Last I heard they ship you a loaner and you use the packing to ship your headstock back to them. When completed the sequence is repeated. Thus headstock shipping = 4 x one way!

Maybe someone close to you can help.

Which bearing? Idler shaft(under belt cover) or porkchop/control sheave button bearing with clip?

If the idler bearing, it is possible that that allowed the idler pulley to open up so the drive belt is jammed between the pulley sheaves.

i.e. it MAY be that nothing is 'broke'. Falling apart, MAYbe. Proper reassembly and lubrication MAY be all it needs.

Lastly, if the belt is worn(is now too narrow) it likely dropped too low into the control sheave pulley, jammed and that caused the idler shaft bearing to stick out as well as stalling the motor.
