How come for, even though I have the correct time zone and DST checked my time is always off an hour in postings, and the time in the upper right that I last visited always says something incorrect like the day before when I had been on several times since? Is it just me? Not abig deal of course, just wondering.

I haven't figured out the time interval yet. But if ya keep visiting, that time will stay the same. If ya don't visit for a couple hours, the time will change accordingly.
As far as the other posting time, do ya have it set in your SS VB prefs?

I am posting this to test the time displayed in the upper left corner of the forum screen. I expect it to be 12:00 noon.

What time zone do you have entered into the forum Control Panel (Edit Options). I would think that you have Mountain Standard Time (GMT -7hrs).

And I see this in the midwest:

Here's a couple of profs that want to end date/time confusion (but create a whole different batch of problems) completely:

Calendar issues are no joke. I write software for a living, and I spend LOADS of time dealing with calendar related issues. Beyond the obvious ones, the worst are when you are dealing with the same date in other calendars (Hebrew Lunar, Japan Emperor Era, etc).

Time zones are a whole other beast. Did you know that india has a timezone that is a half-hour off (IST is UTC+5:30)?


Generally speaking, your post will be stored in UTC format in the server's database. Based on your user configuration settings it will be converted when retreived to your local time. If you enter in a date via a dialog or something it gets converted from your local time zone to UTC on your computer first, or it gets sent to the server with extra information about your time zone. The latter is not as common since its more of a pain.

Since you are one time zone East of my location, when I posted at 11:59am it was 12:59pm as indicated on your screen. One additional time zone further East (pennview's area), the time is 1:59pm. Ain't technology great?

We can have this exchange later in the year, when you guys all go on daylight savings time, to see if we really understand this. Arizona does not utilize daylight savings.

In the user control panel you can set both the time zone and dst option.

You can see from the drop down menu for time zone, that there are several locales with 1/2 hr increments.

Ever wonder why airlines(and military) use UST fka GMT?]do[/B] know about leap seconds! Makes setting super accurate clocks a 'trip'!:eek:


P.S. the 'today's posts' is updated at 0:00 UST. i.e. 19:00,18:00,17:00,16:00 for EST,CST,MST,PST respectively.
