It was Jan 6 today, I was out hiking about with no winter jacket, just a hooded sweatshirt, no gloves, light hat and it was 55 degrees! I live in northern IL, it is not ever this warm in the middle of winter. No snow, ice over lakes with water on top... Not even a hint it is this time of year.
We were out most of the day and had to make a couple of stops before heading home for the night. We are in the Menards parking lot and this is how it looks in the western sky:

Then I go inside and find one of my favorite Plano tool boxes on sale for $6.88, I check out with the tool box and some fasteners, my refund check covers the whole purchase and I still have another $2+ left to spend another day.... plus I get another 11% off!!!!
I get outside and I still have time to see this:

We get home a little after 5:00 and it is still 49 degrees..........
I know something is off here but wow am I enjoying it!
Ed
Be glad to be on the good side of it

Yeah, I know, crazy weather. The other morning the weather channel was showing iced over trees in Florida and we hit almost 60 degrees here in Arkansas. Not that I'm complaining. Today was abou 65+ but apparently that warm run is over as of tonight. I was really enjoying working out in my barn/shop. Bummer.

That was only half the weathers fault for the ice covered fruit trees. They mist the trees when it gets below freezing. The 'cold' "sucks" the heat out of the water and keeps the tree parts just below freezing where it does not damage the tree. Only works for near below temps of short duration. Happens often enough to justify permanently 'plumbing' the orchard.

It was so nice here in Northern Illinois yesterday, that I got the motorcycle out and took a 100 mile ride. Can't do that very often in January up here. Sounds like it going to get cold next week so the motorcycle is back in it's parking spot until the next 50 degree day. Most likely till spring.

I would kill to have my bike out now but I just can't give it the time. I'll have to wait until spring. It is a 4 cylinder with 4 carbruetors and they need going through as well as a new battery and some very minor starter button work. The tires are pretty old and I want to replace them both. It's not like running old tires on an old truck...
I have plans / hope to replace it with something lower and more of a road bike with full fairing like a dressed Goldwing or the like. My wallet and my concience will not let me buy a big Harley.

I have spent a lot on toys over the last few years so even play stuff needs to be done kind of frugally now.
My current bike is an ancient 4 cylinder Super Sport Honda that I have had for a long time. It has lost out to the horses in recent years and has been sitting a while. This is the year to get back on the road.

Some years we get some warm winter weather. Most years we don't. It has been like this for all my life, and it isn't going to change now. This winter has been a picnic so far. Yesterday, I grilled steaks outside. Three years ago, it was -44 degrees here.
After the last 3 winters here being so far below normal, it is about time to have one above normal. I consider it payback.
