For Sale Section?

Hi All

I was just reading through the community forums...and I found some of the for sale ads.

I wonder if we should ask the "folks in charge" of this forum if we could have one? I know I would look here first when I need something...if there were a dedicated "sell/buy your stuff" section.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!
Geo

Its against the forum rules. They want to sell their own stuff.

ssug.org had a buy/sell forum, but the activity is not that much.

I disagree with that request. I'm one of them that feel that those for sale ads should knot be posted here. Wood ya go into a local retail store and try to sell the same used product they're trying to sell new?

Indeed!

Remember who OUR benefactor is here!

If anything they be too lax in enforcing their policy.

As Nick has said, this forum exists for the users. However, IMHO, not to the detriment of the Sponsor.

Tis their prerogative when it becomes so.

Since Shopsmith does not market used items, I believe there is an arguement that what would be sold here would not be in competition. I further contend that every looker who is eventually converted to "Shopsmith Owner" is a strong potential customer for Shopsmith.

Every looker who purchases something other than a Shopsmith product (from eBay or otherwise, is a customer lost (for that specific item).

I abide by the rules but I do not have my heart in it.

Yes, if the box stores had a bulletin board for customers to post for sale items on, I would certainly consider posting my for sale "competing items" there. Where better to find a potential customer.

I think the used car market does have a negative effect on new car sales, even though they are nowhere as durable as a shopsmith. The effect is/would be greater for used ss stuff. However most new car dealers do compete with themselves by way of used cars.(I will not delve into the 'trade in' shell game, but SS did with the Power pro upgrade).

Shopsmith has no right to limit sales on e-bay or anywhere else except on its turf any more than a new car dealer has to limit independent used car lots.

I pretty much agree with the rest of what you said. Yes quite often principle hurts.

This debate has been going on as long as there has been a Shopsmith forum and nothing has changed as a result of the discussions and probably never will.

Shopsmith has held their ground as indicated by the fact that forum rules have not be revised to openly allow commercial activities on the forum.

Therefore, I just hang here as an obedient participant of the forum and do little, other that occasionally express strong opinion, to get me in hot water. That is how it is and how it shall remain.

So the used power coupler that sold on ebay for twice as much as it was worth, was knot a lost sale for Shopsmith?

All I can say is that SS DOESN'T have that bulletin board here.
