Another RipOff

Just wanted to share a story about how you can get taken to the cleaners if you don't engage your brain (I was lucky - this time my brain engaged before I acted).

Our home alarm system has a keychain remote device which can turn the alarm on/off after you have left the house.

The plastic case broke where you attach the remote to your keychain. Although I could still attach it to the keychain and the remote still worked, the case would not stay closed - the front to back snap closure also was broken.

Called the alarm folks - new remote $80+ - - programming the remote $120+! I said "The remote WORKS - I just need a new case". Reply "We don't sell replacement cases - just new remotes."

My solution: go online - buy new remote of same model - swap innards.
Cost $26.

Just thought someone else might benefit from this idea. Hope someone can - 'cause you can use the savings to buy A NEW TOOL!!!:D:D

Gee! I wonder how much it cost in the beginning? They would have had to also 'design' the programming.

Somebody thought they were the only game in town.
