Can any of you Shopsmith Guru's explain the visual difference between the early (A) and (B) headstock casings? If I had them side by side what do I look for and is there any preference related to one casting or the other?
Thanks

Are you talking about stripped down or fully assembled?

I followed the link and now see the differences. Is there any preference to one casting over the other?

In general, A < B < C.
B has the hole in the side for access, so thats a big plus. you can add one yourself, but given the choice you might as well take one already made. In doing so you know the clip type cover will fit it.
C has an even bigger access hole
