disk sanding question

i have the old steel disk for sanding. i have lots of 12 inch sand paper but no longer have any of the adhesive to attach them to the disk. is there anything on the regular market that i could use?

I have not purchased any in a hardware store but 3M makes a spray adhesive that works great. I don't have any in the shop now so I cannot give you details.
I bought mine at an upholstery shop.

Try 3M 77 spray adhesive.

So when I also suggest 3M 77 will that help your decision process. I have seen it recently in Ace Hardware and Lowes stores. Jim

My local Walmart had it as of about 2 years ago anyway and for about $2 a can less then the Ace. If you want to shop give them a try too.

My first thought was for the same 3M spray, works great & from my experience (not with sanding disks, but other uses, it's a bear to remove the stuck stuff. It's an adhesive meant to put stuff together & stay stuck. Probably a heat gun will soften it best.
I thought of something else you might try. Hobby & craft places have a spray contact glue for picture mounting that's thinner to spray (not as gloppy as 3M) and easier to undo. Smells the same as the 3M, so probably the same basic compound. Might work well enough & also be easier to remove.

Removal is a piece of cake compared to previous methods(stick and latex).

Two different tips about this - first 3M has several different spray on adhesives, they are all different. Use the 77. Some of the others can be a bear to remove.
Secondly- a method you can consider to get old sandpaper off of the discs is to put the disc in the oven to heat it up. Don't let your wife know!

If you like swapping papers on your disc, you might want to try hairspray some time. Granted, I've never used it for this particular application, but I suspect it might be real good at the job.
