Makita power planer question

I have the makita 1900B power planer I bought it used and it never came with a knife setting gauge. I spent 2 hours fussing with the depth of the knife setting, I still cant get it deadly set. Is there someone out there with a gauge that can give me the settings? or a good way to set it up with out going insane
