Band saw Help

I just was doing some adjusting on my band saw and I would like to know if there is a way to adjust the band saw so the power coupling runs straight with the motor shaft. On mine the height is ok but it is about an 1/8 to 1/4 inch off sideways. I have the brown and gold Mark 5 with the tan colored bandsaw.Thanks

Hi,

I recently encountered similar trouble on a very old Mark V with a Magna jointer. The jointer was sitting on the Mark V on simple straight pipes. What you need are the aluminum eccentric pipes, which you can then adjust for horizontal offset. The exploded bandsaw or jointer parts diagram will show them. At least for the jointer (if not both tools) the eccentric p/n was 5020809.

By the way, SS also sells an even further-offset set of "built up" eccentrics for the bandsaw, offset far enough that you can lift the drill-press mode without removing the bandsaw. I tried these, and they work as advertised, but I felt they flexed a bit too much and let the bandsaw assembly vibrate more than I liked. So I'm using the stiff "normal" aluminum eccentrics. The bandsaw isn't yet too heavy for me to lift off when required.

Best Regards,

Check that == p/n = 5137779

Hi Again,

I went and checked the correct site. The proper eccentrics are p/n 5137779:

Good luck!

I had the same problem with unsteadiness with the eccentric tubes, I ended taking them back off. Luckily I have a second SS I picked up on a deal. I can leave the bandsaw on the same one that I use for the lathe.

Bandsaw Alignment

I use the alignment of the headrest to correct the sideway adjustment of the bandsaw. With the Shopsmith setting on the floor (casters retacted), I release the headrest handle. Then I align the height for the bandsaw hubs. Then slightly loosen the bench tube lock bar bolts and twist the headrest to align the side way adjustment. Then tighten the bench tube lock bar bolts. I have to play with this adjustment sometimes before the coupling hubs are side way aligned for the bandsaw.
