Those tabs prevent the shaft from rotating in the handle.

Rgr that, I know why they are there, just was not sure if the screwdriver kit shafts have those tabs or not as it might be somewhat harder to insert the blade into the handle. Guess I might do a search on screwdriver kits just to take a look at how they recommend putting them together.
