OK guys, this is the one thing that irks me about this forum. How about continuing this conversation down in the community slot. No one can seem to stay on subject and at any given time, any thread and any subject seems to evolve to the community. I really wish they would eliminate the commuinty because there is no need for it any more.

I fear my answer will place me in the fools who must speak category. I confess to becoming confused on occassion. Still discussions like this one serve to teach me about subjects of which I know little. For this ole dummy that is truly a blessing. By the same token I am sorry that new knowledge is so frustrating to you. I vote we keep the community forum. Fjimp

New knowledge is never frustrating and is welcomed, however, topics which have nothing to do with woodworking should be placed in the community thread where it belongs. All I'm saying is that so many topics other than wood working are placed anywhere in this forum constantly and it has gotten out of control. This writing should also be in the community and not in Beginning Woodworking. If one wants to talk about horses then place it in the community and not here.

At the risk of further alienating Ashbury, I will answer the question.

At the bottom of the wikipedia page is a list of 'active' cavalry units. The list links to unit 'pages'. There is none for the 40th.

Although I agree Ashbury has a valid point, I cannot get all worked up over it.

This is a friendly forum, not a formal debate.

Now if this off subject stuff was needing to be found later, we would be inserting meaningful titles(and posting it elsewhere probably).

A while back I started(and MickyD helped) a potpourri thread each month which ended up spilling over into the following month and sorta just died due to lack of creating a new one every month.

That however does not accommodate natural development of a thread but does create a more logical place for random development.

So should we do so again?

You are correct and I am a very frequent offender and/or a frequent participate in someone else' travels off subject. But what can one do. We can't move the post but I guess we could just not participate (because it is off subject) - like we are right now.

It used to offend me as it appears it does you but no more. I gave up.

Over at Sawmill Creek they stay on subject (because the moderators attempt to force it). I seldom visit SMC anymore because it does not hold my attention.

Sorry, Ashbury (and everyone else who feels the same way). I will attempt to guard myself against such excursions.

I may also join forces again against those who tend to travel off subject - as I used to do.

Ashbury, point noted! No promises though!;)

I hate to change the topic but on newer Shopsmiths (my 50th anniversary model for example) the date code location has been moved to a tag attached to the bottom of the label mounted on the front side of the belt cover. I believe that I have also seen them located on later model machines on the front of the base assembly (right end of bench). (My tangent) I would ask those folks that got new PowerPro headstocks where the serial number/date code was located on them.

Now back to one of your other regularly scheduled tangents. Take it away..........

Things were much simpler in the good old days. We always knew where to look!;)

It is on a small label located on the belt housing immediately below the large warning label to the left of the PP control panel.

Thanks, Dick. I thought that it would be the same as the newer headstocks but did not want to assume.
