Consider a better stand though. Stands like that tend to bust up instruments. The daily battering of dragging the instrument across the lip ruins the finish and damages the wood. I've seen more than one that was snapped or crushed when pulled out at an angle, or dropped to the ground once lifted all the way out.

There is a good reason stands like that are rarely ever used, and the lean in cradle types are far more common.
Is this more what you would call safe? Of course padded inside surfaces.

That may be better if less 'tight'. It would concentrate the stress on the front if tilted too much to the front. I think shorter 'arms' on the front would be less prone to damaging the instrument.

P.S. NO arms would be short enough! Just a simple rest for the bottom and a back support. All sloped back slightly to provide stable balance. Not sure the triangular foot print would be stable side to side. Any reason not resting on the peg is a goal? Time extended stress?

There is a 5 degree tilt back; triangular footprint because there's a piano hinge in the back for fold up. Maybe put a 4" or 6" wide spacer in back and make it half-lapped joints that slip together for portability. The front arms are only about 6" tall. Back support is about 12" tall. The whole body is only 26".

Loosely, yes. Clever folding capability.

I'd suggest minimizing the front legs so a person doesn't try to lift the cello so high getting it out. Raise the rear to catch the cello higher, like on the neck. Strong there, and less likely to get dropped against a wall.

Don't forget about the endpin or spike. It will frequently drop and then drag across the floor as the cello is laid into the cradle, and as its brought forward to be removed.

I made about a 3.5" gap between legs & increased the back height to 24". The tie at the bottom back it half-lapped into each leg. A hinge bolt and a button pin should suffice to keep the Keeper attached.
